The mechanic
Armor is cosmetic — charms are the only stat slot
Capcom's official product page is unambiguous: sword appearances, haori coats, outfits and gauntlets are cosmetic items that change the appearance of Miyamoto Musashi and do not alter his performance in battle. There is no armor stat pool to min-max.

Charms are changed from the Charms section of the Equipment screen, accessible from the Main Menu. Cosmetic items — sword appearances, haori coats, outfits and gauntlets — are swapped at the in-game Spirit Mirror under Change Appearance.
Both categories unlock gradually as you progress, and DLC set items are claimed through the Spirit Mirror. Capcom notes that Deluxe content may be sold separately later, so double-check what you already own before buying anything twice.

Should you buy the Deluxe cosmetic pieces?
The Deluxe Kit dresses Musashi in Red Armor and adds sword appearances like Raizan, Enryuu, Bamboo & Panda and the Whittled Oar, plus the Crimson Lotus gauntlet look — but per Capcom, none of it changes performance. The Raizan and Enryuu skins evoke the classic elemental blades by design only; officially, they are ordinary blades with a shocking look.
The verdict: buy these pieces because you love the look, not because you expect power. The charms bundled alongside them are the only part of any edition that touches gameplay, and even those grant effects rather than raw stats.
